Contacting Samuel Martin through this website, by email, or by phone does not automatically create a general attorney-client relationship, although it may lead to a limited-scope referral consultation as described below. No attorney-client relationship of any kind, including a limited-scope referral representation, is formed until Samuel Martin agrees to represent you.


Limited-Scope Referral Representation

If you choose to hire Samuel Martin, he will establish a lawyer-client relationship with you. That relationship is a limited representation to assess and refer your matter:

  • Scope. Samuel Martin will represent you solely for an initial intake, conflict screen, preliminary assessment, and referral. He will not represent you on the merits of your matter unless you separately agree to that. This limited engagement still carries his duties of competence, confidentiality, conflict avoidance, and communication.
  • Intake. He will conduct an intake sufficient to identify the legal issue, assess conflicts, and determine whether the receiving lawyer is competent and appropriate for your matter.
  • Referral decision. He will make a documented referral decision based on your interests, not on any pay-to-play arrangement.
  • Written disclosure. Before or at the time of referral, you will receive a written disclosure that names Samuel Martin and the receiving lawyer or law firm and describes how the fee will be shared. You will have the opportunity to object, and the fee will be shared only if you do not object.
  • Reasonable fees. The total fee charged to you will remain reasonable.

If Samuel Martin declines representation and no lawyer-client relationship is formed, he cannot receive any portion of the receiving lawyer's fee.
